The BIRD LIFE at WAVECREST
The overlapping of the Mediterranean, Lowland
Forest, and Montana Forest bird habitat zones results in the profusion of bird
life, for which Wavecrest is famous. Our own
bird
checklist
sports over 340 varieties. During the November 1998 weekend
bird count, our guests, who included some well-known birding celebrities,
identified 169 different species.
The best time for birding is of course the Summer months, when the migrant
Waders abound. It is the time you may drift your canoe to within a meter
or two of the rare Mangrove Kingfisher. The other six species of
Kingfishers frequently spotted, are around all year, as are the majestic Fish
Eagles or our huge flock of Crowned Cranes, for which Wavecrest is best known.
