Not to much happening on new developments. As explained before, the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism now calls the shots. Their history as "Destroyer in Chief" of the Transkei environment is well known. They are now concentrating their efforts on destroying tourism. "Jack the Ripper, baby sitter"?
Good News! Work is well under way on a complete new gravel surface for our road. Kentani to the Mazeppa turn-off is almost done. We hope for a lovely new road by November. Please drive carefully during the construction process.
Discoloured bath water has always been the downside of living in paradise. Whilst our drinking water is from treated rain tanks, the balance is pumped from a nearby spring. The loam content, particularly after rain, accounts for the brownish tinge. A new filter system, and minimal chlorination, has succeeded in improving our water quality substantially.
Our Crane Dilemma, any ideas?
Our colony of beautiful Crowned Cranes that have roosted on the beach in front of the
hotel for decades, has now been scattered by the attentions of a family of Cape Clawless
Otter that have a lair in the thicket adjacent to the hotel. Both species are rare and
very welcome. We cannot interfere with nature. What do we do??
As you are probably aware, the whale seasons are divided into the Northwards journey to warm waters for calving, then the return trip with their calves. We are delighted to report ever increasing numbers each year. The last of the late whales have barely passed and the first of those returning are already showing off their babies. Don’t miss the whales, they’re wonderful.
More publicity. We really don’t go looking for it, gratefully it just happens The Wavecrest feature on the ESA extreme angling TV series was followed up by a very flattering editorial in the August edition of their magazine. Their presenter, Raymond’s comment that it was the finest edible fishing spot that he had visited, did not go unnoticed.

Look out for the November issue of the SA Airlink in-flight magazine. Wavecrest is the cover story. Getaway November will focus on shipwrecks of the Wild Coast. We hope to feature in the article.
Oh dear! So much happening and the web site has been neglected for so long – sorry.
We want to extend our grateful thanks to Grant Atkinson for supplying many of the fine photos on this website.
Well let’s try to remember the most significant events over the last three years.

An equinox spring tide, excessive flooding, monster seas and poor judgment led to the
drowning of a young British tourist in September 2006. Returning from an outride, a group of horse riders encountered the swollen outgoing flow that separated them from the resort. Rain and failing light induced the decision to swim the horses across the river. One rider was swept to sea. |

The wonderful feeling of security experienced at Wavecrest can only be attributed to
our excellent relationship with our local community. Since we adopted the nearby primary
school by adding a second classroom to the little one-roomed shack that they were
restricted to, we assisted in constructing a second 2-classroom block in 2006. The
number of pupils continued to grow and funds allocated to the school’s expansion
continued to disappear long before reaching the need. |

We were proud to have been voted amongst the 15 best family resorts in Southern Africa, by this prestigious publication. It follows a previous accolade where our estuary was chosen amongst the 10 finest waterways.
Greatest Shoal on Earth 2There was great excitement in June 2005. National Geographic chose Wavecrest for the filming of the Greatest Shoal on Earth 2. Experts on all aspects of the famed Sardine Run, as well as film crews from National Geographic, Animal Planet, Imax Theatres and Tigress Films, descended on us for the month. Not only did we learn a huge amount, but it has provided a fantastic new attraction to Wavecrest. Don’t miss it, in June and early July !
50/50The popularity of our swimming with wild dolphins was sure to attract attention. We hope that you didn’t miss the 50/50 program screened in March 07 and hosted by Tiara Walters. The question posed in the program was whether any harm was caused by this activity. We agree with the invited expert, Siani Tinley of East London Aquarium, that the Dolphin’s domain is far to vast for us to have any impact on them. Furthermore, why are they attracted to us if they feel in any way threatened ?
Extreme AnglingAn episode for this popular program was filmed here in May. Look out for the screening any time now!

| Wavecrest Villas Shareblock (Pty) Ltd has entered into a back to back lease agreement with Transtar Hotels (Pty) Ltd. the lease holder of the Wavecrest Hotel. As a consequence of this agreement, the embarrassment of 70 years of accumulated hotel waste that has been rotting in the swamp to the West of the resort, has now been converted to beautifully lawned parkland. The two areas of indigenous forest have been rescued and some 200 additional trees added. The natural river course has been focused and an alternative fresh water source created, as well as a reeded fresh water dam to attract birds and small game. | ![]() |
| 12 Villas are to be built in this area. All will be identical from the outside, with
maintenance free, high quality finishes. These will afford families the opportunity to effectively purchase the sole use of these units for at least the duration of the present lease, until December 2054. The location is unrivalled anywhere on earth, the retirement possibilities, unique. |

| The two units already completed were instantly snapped up. The remaining 10 are
awaiting EIA studies and the protocol dictated by the new legislation. Anyone interested, who feel that they can satisfy the strict qualification criteria, are welcome to phone Conrad at 083 3063037 |

Wavecrest has been discovered as the most amazing wedding venue.
We have hosted several in the past three years and each has been delightful.
The way that we arrange it is that you enjoy an entire weekend, or longer with your
loved ones, instead of a few fleeting hours. You would expect that this exotic option
would be frightfully expensive, on the contrary, with no venue fees, no extra catering
costs, and our “all in deals” it is a bargain !
We even have our own resident magistrate, able to perform the legal side of the ceremony,
without loosing sight of the spiritual commitment.
This is a great idea. Give Ella a call on 083 3063043
